Group Challenge 1 - Persuasion: What is it.
READ ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW BEFORE BEGINNING THIS CHALLENGE!!!!!
1) Make sure each member in your group has a worksheet. (If you are doing it at home, the worksheet can be found below in the "Files" section
2) Click on the video below that says Persuasive Language
-Start it at 2:20
3) Fill out the worksheet based on the video. (Yes, they go in order)
-You may stop and start the video as many times as you like but remember this is a time race
against other teams in the room. The longer you take, the less likely it will be that your group will
come in first.
- Your group may WHISPER only
4) When your group thinks EVERYONE has the correct answer, SILENTLY walk up to Mrs. Simpson and write your groups name on the white board. If your group talks or yells, you will be forced to wait 1 minute to sign the board.
Task 1 - Create a definitions book
READ ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW BEFORE BEGINNING THIS TASK!!!
-Click on the link above.
-Work as a group to put the 14 definitions into your own words. Each person must have the words a definition on their own piece of notebook paper. Make it to where you KNOW what it is. (Mrs. Simpson may randomly ask your group a definition for extra credit if you know it or dextra credit if you don't)
-Create a mini booklet using paper from Mrs. Simpson. It must have one page for each word. (Each person will be responsible for 4 pages each and all members work to create the last two)
Each page must include:
-Title (which is the word)
-The groups definition
-An illustration to help you remember the word.
(There can be NO stick figures and NO pencils. Only markers or map pencils)
Task 2 - Persuasive Language Surfing
Choose 3 videos to watch, and 3 magazine/newspaper ads to look at (that makes a total of 6). As a team you must analyze the advertisements to identify what types of persuasive techniques are used. Give the titles of the videos and ads that you view, and list all persuasive techniques present in the ads. Explain where the techniques are present. Please see the worksheet in the attachments to know which partners are responsible for which tasks.

Flesh out the use of this fake product. Be creative; this is your time to color outside the lines.
STEP 6. Create a magazine advertisement:
-use Paint, SMART Notebook, or Microsoft Word to design your advertisement, complete with spokesperson, product description, and catch phrase
